Hi everyone! It’s almost officially winter! With that in mind, I thought I would write my fall hopefuls wrap up. I set a goal of 8 fall-themed, spooky books or ones I’ve wanted to read for a while and I read five of them! I’m very much a mood reader, so I’m happy I was able to read the five that I did! I did mini-reviews of three of the books in my October Mini Review, but I’ve also included them below! I hope you enjoy my fall hopefuls wrap up!
Synopsis: Alicia Berenson seemed to have the perfect life. She was a famous painter, married to a fashion photographer, living in a stunning London house. Then one night, Alicia shoots her husband in the face, and then never speaks again. With her refusal to speak and no explanation of why, the tragedy turns into a mystery that captivates the public. Her artwork skyrockets, and she becomes the silent patient, held at the Grove, a secure psychiatric unit, hidden away from the public eye. Then comes Theo Faber, a criminal psychotherapist. He has been eager to work with Alicia ever since he heard her story and is determined to get her to talk. Told between Alicia’s diary entries and Theo’s perspective, the story unravels in a way you won’t see coming.
This book was very interesting! I do understand the hype around this book, as it was good. However, I did pick up on a few things quickly, but there were other parts that I was still shocked about. I like how the story is told through Alica’s and Theo’s perspectives, as I always enjoy reading a book with multiple points of view. If you’re looking for a psychological thriller with quite a few twists, I recommend reading this book!

Synopsis: When Ari and Josh first meet, they instantly hate each other. They have nothing in common, except for the fact that they are sleeping with the same woman. They never expect to see each other again. Ari is a struggling comedian who keeps things casual and never sleeps over after a hookup. Josh is a culinary mastermind who wants to find his person, the one to wake up to every morning. They don’t run in the same circles, except they keep bumping into each other, every time still hating each other. However, one day, both recovering from bad breakups, they find themselves becoming friends. They find comfort in each other until one night their friendship becomes something more. Will they be able to rekindle their friendship or are they doomed to hate each other again?
I loved this book! One of my favorite movies is When Harry Met Sally and when I saw someone mention this book had the feeling of the movie I knew I needed to read it! I really liked the back-and-forth between Ari and Josh, but at times I was like “Please just get it together!!”. Some of their decisions were driving me bonkers, but overall I liked the flow and the spicy scenes were a plus. When I say this has the feeling of When Harry Met Sally, I don’t mean it’s exactly like it. However, the story does take place in NYC over multiple years and chance meetings until they become friends, just like the movie, but it’s very different, I promise. Even though this book is over 400 pages I thought it was a relatively quick read, and I recommend it as a good fall romance read!

My best friend has been telling me to read this series for a while and I kept putting it off! Sorry! I won’t make that mistake again because this book was phenomenal! It hooked me in right from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down! The ENDING, well I wasn’t expecting that! It was shocking! This is a young adult book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a great small-town true crime mystery. Plus the character development was great. I just finished the second book in the series and didn’t enjoy it as much, but I still didn’t guess anything and was hooked. I’m hoping to read the last book in the series this month.

Synopsis: Florence Day is a ghostwriter for a trendy romance author, and she also happens to see ghosts. Florence grew up helping her family at their Funeral Home while helping the ghosts move on. After aiding a ghost in solving a murder, the people of her town don’t understand her, so when she graduates she leaves and never looks back. Now in NYC, after a terrible breakup, her new charmingly handsome editor won’t give her an extension on the book, so she believes her career is over. But then she receives a phone call she never wanted to hear and must return home. Even though she has missed her family she can’t think of staying for long, until she sees a familiar handsome ghost standing at the Funeral Home’s door. She must help him with his unfinished business, but along the way he has her second guess everything she thought she knew about romance stories. But, romance is dead, right?
I really enjoyed this book! When I saw it was a romance and there were ghosts I knew it would be right up my alley! I thought it was a very interesting topic for a romance book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It made me laugh out loud quite a few times, which is quite rare when I read. There was even a mention of Taylor Swift which is a huge plus! This is a great spooky fall romance!

Synopsis: When Noemí Toboada receives a letter from her newlywed cousin saying her new husband is poisoning her and needs to be saved, Noemí’s father sends her to High Place, where Noemí’s cousin lives. Not sure what she will find she heads to High Place with the hopes of helping her cousin and then returning home soon. But once she arrives she realizes there is more going on at High Place than meets the eye. But she’s smart and more importantly tough. She is not afraid of her cousin’s new family and not even of the house, that somehow finds its way into her dreams. Noemí’s only ally is the family’s youngest son, who tries to help her uncover the truth. However, he could also be keeping secrets from her. As Noemí digs deeper into the family and the house she begins to wonder if she will ever be able to leave the terrifying, but seductive world of High Place.
I really enjoyed this book, but it took me a bit to get into it. Once I got to the part where you figure out why everything is happening the way it is, I was like “Huh, very interesting!”. The historical, fantasy, and horror elements all tied in together so nicely, and there was even a little bit of romance. If you’re looking for a multi-genre book with fantasy elements, I highly recommend reading this book!
