Hi everyone! Happy September! This week’s post is my August Mini Review. I read 8 books this month, which is a great month for me! Although two of them were graphic novels, so I read them pretty quickly. I’m going to be reviewing 3 of the books I read!
Synopsis: You know that you will someday receive a call from Death-Cast, but you hope you will have lived a full life before then. “Hello, I’m calling from Death-Cast. I regret to inform you that sometime in the next twenty-four hours you’ll be meeting an untimely death.” Eighteen year old Mateo Torrez and seventeen year old Rufus Emeterio both received a call from Death-Cast on September 5th. They are complete strangers but connect with each other on the app Last Friend where they try to spend a lifetime in one day. Set in NYC they travel all over the city to try to have as many new experiences hoping they make it to the next one.
This book ruined me!! I knew they were going to die at the end, but I still had a sliver of hope! This is a book that I could not put down and finished it in a day, almost in one single sitting. Also, I was not prepared to cry multiple times! I naturally tend to cry a lot, but rarely when reading, so I was surprised when I couldn’t stop. Each part in the book has a different quote and this was my favorite one, “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that’s all.” -Oscar Wilde. It made me think that if it were my last day, how would I want to spend it? Would I regret anything?

Synopsis: You find out someone has died at the school trivia night in the first chapter then the book goes back to 6 months before. The story unravels with police testimony and following the lives of three kindergarten moms. Madeline, a force of a woman, is fiercely loyal and rarely forgives. Celeste, the woman whose beauty makes you stop in your tracks, with a seemingly effortless life, but has a dark secret. Jane, a single mom who is new to town with a troubled past. Their lives intertwine in ways they never thought possible until they are all together on the night of the death.
To be honest, it took me a little bit to get into this book, but about 100 pages in I was hooked. I had a few guesses as to who was going to be found dead, but I wasn’t sure until the very end. I enjoyed how there was police testimony along with the past story line, so you could get different perspectives. The book was adapted into a tv series, so it’s on my list to watch! If you’re looking for a book with multiple point of views (POV), this is a good one!

Synopsis: Split between 2 timelines, Fern Brookbanks recounts the magically 24 hours she spent with Will Baxter when he suddenly comes back into her life 10 years later. They made a pact to meet one year after that day. Fern showed up, but Will did not. In the time since they last saw each other Fern’s life has not gone to plan. Fern has suddenly found herself back at her mother’s resort, after vowing she never wanted to run it. When in walks Will Baxter offering to help turn her mother’s resort around. Will she be able to trust this new version of Will to help save her dream?
This is the second book I’ve read by this author, including Every Summer After. I gave it 4/5 stars because it felt like the chemistry was not as strong as her last book. I still thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a great book to read during the summer! It does have the good old third act breakup, which is my least favorite thing about romance books, but this one didn’t last long. I did prefer this book, over Every Summer After because of a certain topic in that book. Although, I highly recommend this author for romance!
