Thank you so much for coming to my blog! I’m so excited to start writing and sharing my experiences with you. I thought I would write my first piece about why I decided to start this blog. You can read little tidbits about me in my about me page, but here is a little in-depth part of my story.
My biggest reason for starting this blog is to use it as my creative outlet. With everything going on in the world I have not been living as I normally do and realized I needed an outlet to express everything. For the past few years, I have been “working to travel,” which meant working seasonal jobs and traveling in between. I had never realized how much I needed to “break up” up my life by traveling until I couldn’t. Which lead me to finally start a blog, something I have wanted to do since I started traveling.
Let me back up and tell you about how I started “working to travel.” It all began when I decided to take a gap year after graduating from high school because I wanted to just breathe and enjoy my life. All because I was diagnosed with leukemia in high school. At the moment I won’t go into great detail, but someday I’ll share some of my cancer stories. Now back to the past, I received my diploma and felt the weight of everything I had gone through lift off of my shoulders. Throughout the next following years, I would still feel the weight of what I went through, but at that moment I thought anything was possible.
I spent my gap year reading more than I had in years, working various jobs, and excitingly started traveling. As my year came to an end I realized I wasn’t ready to start college. I wanted to continue the life I was living. So here I am today still “working to travel,” just without so much of the traveling and a lot more of the working.
This year I came to the realization that I used traveling as my creative outlet and a “reboot” of my life. I am very fortunate that I am able to live my life this way and happy that I get to share it with you. However, without traveling i.e. my outlet, I found myself much more anxious, in part because of COVID 19, worrying about my family and friends, and the way the world is responding, but also because I was staying in a small radius to keep everyone around me as well as myself safe and healthy.
Over the summer I was very fortunate to have extra time with my best friend, who goes to school in a different state. One of our social distance get-togethers was hiking where we had chats about every and all things, leading to talking about blogs. She said she would read anything I wrote because I have many traveling and motivational stories to share. I started thinking “Why not?”. I had always wanted to start a blog, but I put it off and then didn’t think people would want to read what I wrote, but now I realize I want to write and take pictures for me. I want to see what I can do to spread happiness and positivity during these dark times.
So that’s a little more about me and why I decided to finally start a blog! I hope I can put a smile on your face and create an escape to places I’ve read or traveled to. Please reach out to me with any questions or comments! I look forward to sharing more with you soon!
Be safe and take care,
Renée
